NARS Batch Code Checker
Estimate a NARS production date, then check the opening symbol and any expiry printed on your makeup. Coverage is limited; results are estimates.
Lookup coverage and limits
Recognized 4- or 6-character codes return an estimated day, month and year. Repeating year digits can fit more than one decade. Results are not verified by NARS and cannot establish a product's authenticity.
Your next steps
Make sense of your NARS result
Use the estimate alongside the instructions on your own product.
Keep the complete package code
Compare the container and carton. Record the letters, leading zeros and any separate printed date. Keep photos of both markings if they differ.
Read expiry and opening instructions
An EXP or best-before date is different from a LOT code. The open-jar symbol gives months after first opening; it does not reveal when the product was manufactured.
Check the estimate against your records
An estimate does not establish storage history or authenticity. If the date conflicts with your purchase history, keep the package details and ask the brand.

NARS makeup dates, opening symbols and SPF products
NARS US publishes guidance for both unopened and opened products. For makeup with SPF, check the actual expiry marking rather than assuming the general non-SPF labeling guidance applies.
What the official source confirms
- NARS describes approximately 3 years of unopened quality under room-temperature storage.
- The PAO appears on the bottom or back and states months after opening, not years since manufacture.
- The US FAQ distinguishes non-SPF expiry labeling and directs further questions to Customer Service.
What to check on the package
- Keep the shade name separate from the batch code when entering it.
- Check SPF and non-SPF products for their own expiry and opening instructions.
- Record the opening date so the PAO can be used independently of the production estimate.
What is a NARS Batch Code?
A NARS batch code is a code used by the manufacturer to identify a production batch. It may help identify a production period when the manufacturer's coding rule is known, but the code is not automatically an expiration date.
The NARS batch code is different from the product's barcode. Barcodes are used for checkout and inventory management. Neither a barcode nor a plausible-looking batch code proves authenticity.
Where to Find NARS Batch Codes?
Bottom of bottle
Look for a printed or embossed lot code on the bottle base or label.
End of tube
Tube products usually have codes at the serrated seal on the tube end.
Outer packaging
Some products have batch codes printed on the bottom or side of the box.
Tip: Batch codes are usually inkjet printed or embossed with a tactile feel. If you can't find the batch code, check if the outer packaging is still available.
How to Check NARS Batch Codes?

- Enter the complete marking in the input box above, then choose Check.

Common questions
NARS Batch Code FAQ
Clear, practical answers for checking NARS production codes and shelf life.
Why can't I find my NARS batch code?
Find the batch marking on your NARS package, separate from the shade and product number. For unclear codes, give Customer Service the full product name, shade, market and purchase date so the specific item can be identified.
Can NARS batch code checker verify authenticity?
A batch code cannot prove that a NARS product is authentic. Codes can be copied, and an unsupported or unreadable code does not by itself show that a product is counterfeit. Ask the brand about an uncertain purchase.
How should I check NARS shelf life?
NARS US gives an approximate 3-year unopened reference under room-temperature storage and directs opened products to their PAO symbol. Its statement about products without expiry dates is for non-SPF items unless otherwise marked. Follow a printed expiry and do not treat this tool's date estimate as confirmation of freshness.
How to store NARS cosmetics to extend shelf life?
Follow the storage instructions on your specific NARS product. Keep the container closed as directed. Do not assume refrigeration is suitable unless the manufacturer recommends it.
