Choose the right date tool
Start with the marking or date you actually have. A batch code, a printed manufacture date, and an opening date answer different questions, so they need different tools.
Keep three dates separate
Manufacture, labelled expiry, and first opening are different events. Write down the label beside each date before calculating anything.

Opening-date tool
Use the actual opening date and the open-jar period printed on your product. The result is a calendar calculation from those inputs.
Enter the date you first opened the product. If you use the reference-date field, the calculator treats it as an assumed opening date. It is not a manufacturing-date or purchase-date calculation.
Select only the PAO shown on the package, such as 6M or 12M. If the product has no PAO or you cannot identify it, leave the period unresolved and ask the manufacturer.
Worked dates
These examples demonstrate calendar arithmetic. The PAO values are hypothetical package markings, not recommendations for a product category.
A product opened on January 15, 2026 with 12M printed on its package reaches the calculated PAO end on January 15, 2027.
A product opened on March 10, 2026 with 6M printed on its package reaches the calculated PAO end on September 10, 2026.
If the same package also has an earlier printed EXP date, follow that labelled deadline. A later PAO calculation does not extend a printed expiry date.
After calculating
Check whether the package also shows EXP, use-by, or special storage and use instructions.
Record the actual opening date, the PAO copied from the package, and the calculated end date together.
If the opening date or PAO is unknown, do not replace it with a purchase date or a category-wide guess. Ask the manufacturer with the product and package details.

A supported batch code may estimate a manufacture date. It cannot supply a product-specific expiry unless the manufacturer also confirms the applicable unopened period and conditions. A printed EXP date takes priority.
